Manifold Absolute Pressure - MAP Sensor is used to monitor the amount of air flow into the engine, the data transmitted from the MAP sensor allows the computor to calculate the air desity and adjust the amount of fule to release into the combustion chamber and also adjust the ingnition timing. In some vehicles a Mass Air Flow - MAF sensor is used and while the two are interchangable the MAF sensor measures air flow while the MAP sensor measures air density.
