The turbocharger in your diesel engine is tasked with delivering additional exhaust gas into the combustion chamber, which allows it to burn more fuel. This gives your vehicle a boost to help you accelerate quickly and haul heavy loads up steep inclines. The turbocharger system is made of a series of parts, including the turbo actuator, turbine, and the hoses and tubes that deliver the exhaust gas. 

The actuator controls the amount of exhaust gas going into the engine by diverting excess gas away from the combustion chamber. If the actuator gets stuck or fails to open/close properly, too much gas could enter the engine, causing it to burn more fuel than necessary. It can also starve the engine, depriving it of the air it needs to generate additional power. In either case, you may need to replace the actuator to resolve the problem. 

The hoses and tubes that keep the turbo running can also break apart or crack over time due to a lack of oil. This will limit the amount of exhaust going into the engine, leading to a loss of power. If the exhaust gas going into the turbo is dirty, it can cause the actuator, hoses or turbine to clog, further reducing the airflow. Hard objects, including rocks, can also damage the turbo housing, bringing the turbo to a halt.
